Chapter One :Chapter 1

“Sis!”

A bubbly voice called from outside. “You in there? Want me to help pick a dress?”

Luna Williams was already flipping through options for tonight's gala outfit. Hearing that voice, her hands paused mid-air.

Only one person in this house called her that.

She opened the door.

Standing there was a girl with an undeniably cute face, dressed in an all-white dress, flashing a picture-perfect smile.

Her sister.

Well, not by blood. Not even by adoption. Just someone without parents who’d been raised here.

A week ago, someone from the Williams family in Qingcheng showed up, found Luna, and took her to do a DNA test.

As soon as the results came out, the man had excitedly dialed someone. “Sir, the results are back. She really is your daughter!”

And just like that, Luna ended up in Qingcheng. After ten days of cramming etiquette lessons fit for a rich heiress and memorizing the massive family tree, she'd finally stepped into this giant mansion.

Daphne Williams strolled in, holding a yogurt, and casually closed the door behind her.

Click. The lock slid shut.

Her smile vanished in a blink.

Gone was the sweetness—replaced by a smug, condescending glare that screamed superiority and disdain.

Luna said nothing. Neither did Daphne.

She just stood there with her yogurt, eyeing the walk-in closet full of new designer dresses like a ticking bomb about to go off.

“Nice dresses,” Daphne said, voice thick with sarcasm. “Heard Mom picked them out herself. Must be nice.”

Then she added, her tone getting colder, “I don’t even have half of these.”

Luna stayed quiet, gaze drifting out the window, calm and unaffected.

Not getting a rise, Daphne scoffed and stepped in close, deliberately looking down her nose at Luna.

“Feels good, huh? All these pretty dresses.”

She tilted her chin up, posture like she owned the place.

Luna gave it some actual thought. These were all from top designers—yes, they were objectively gorgeous.

She nodded.

Still not as pretty as what she designed herself, though.

Daphne snorted, as if that confirmed everything she thought. “Figures. You're never satisfied.”

She stopped right in front of Luna. Her face, naturally a bit sharp, was now twisted with jealousy and rage, her expression downright bitter.

“Luna—” she sneered, exaggerating Luna’s name like it was poison in her mouth. “Let me make one thing crystal clear. Give up whatever fantasy you’ve got going. I’m the real third daughter of this house.”

“Everything here? It all belongs to me. I grew up in this family. I had these parents. I spent the last twenty years living this life! You think just showing up with some matching DNA gives you the right to take everything I've had?”

Luna kept her cool, eyes fixed on her.

Daphne’s already slightly bulging eyes looked like they were about to pop as her fury amped up."You know why the Williams family suddenly sent for you? It's not because Mom and Dad suddenly remembered they love you so much. It's because they need you for the engagement with the Brooks family. I’m never marrying a disabled guy! They couldn't bear to force me, so they brought you in instead."

"Think about it. You went from a nobody orphan to a rich girl just like that—only because of me."

Daphne leaned in closer, her voice low and menacing. "But don’t get the wrong idea. I’m not here for your gratitude."

"One day, I’m gonna watch you get kicked out of here like some stray dog."

"Even the trash I don’t want, you’re not good enough for it."

Daphne sneered, grabbed a bottle of yogurt from the table, raised it up, and said coldly, "This is your warm welcome—"

With a tilt of her wrist, the yogurt spilled out, drenching Luna’s head.

"Now you know what it means to be way out of your league."

The thick, cold liquid slid down Luna's hair, across her smooth forehead and straight nose. Compared to her fair skin, it was hard to tell which was paler.

Her eyes lowered slightly, calm like a sea frozen over for ten thousand years.

Her fingers twitched, just as she was about to raise her hand, a worn, aged face flashed in her mind—her old director from the orphanage.

“Luna, if you want to stay in this family, you have to swallow it.”

"Silence. No reaction, that's what it means to endure. Even if they treat you like you're mute or dumb, just take it. It's the only way to get a real home."

She breathed in slowly, forcing her hand back down.

Seeing her quiet, Daphne thought she’d won.

Smirking, she was about to step forward again when suddenly footsteps echoed from the stairs.

The old lady walked in with Luna’s parents right behind her.

The moment she saw Luna covered in yogurt, her face instantly darkened.

“What is this mess? Luna, what on earth are you doing?!”

Like flipping a switch, Daphne's eyes turned red in an instant. She ran over to the old lady, grabbing her arm, tears brimming: “Grandma, my sister’s never seen yogurt before, maybe she thought it was for bathing. She just poured it on herself when I brought it over.”

“It’s my fault, Grandma. I didn’t stop her in time. Please don’t be mad at her, if anyone deserves to be scolded, it's me!”

The old lady patted her back, full of pity. "Don’t cry, my sweetheart. Don’t cry."

But then she looked over at Luna, her face even more displeased. “Doing something like this—unbelievable! Luna, where’s your sense of grace? Evelyn, you need to teach her better. We can’t have another scene like this at tonight’s party.”
